Wee Weekly and Sunday Social Updates

St. Georges Tennis Club has traditionally held two types of member-focused events: the Sunday Social and the Wee Weekly. These are open to members of all skills and are offered to encourage meeting new members and improving your play. While both have been a tradition at SGTC, this year will see some changes both in reaction to Covid-19, and to help encourage more members to participate in these skill-building and social-oriented events.

The Sunday Social is an ideal way to meet great people and enjoy the wonderful game of tennis. The format is mixed (co-ed) doubles and runs every Sunday from 2pm to 4pm (weather permitting). Space is limited, so register early. Teams are randomly paired, and you will be guaranteed an hour of play.

The Wee-Weekly has a long history at Saint Georges Tennis Club and presents an opportunity for friendly match-play among club members. This year will be slightly different, as we are taking an opportunity to rework the tournament. This year, the Wee-Weekly will begin at 8:30 on Saturdays, starting June 27. Some immediate improvements include timed matches to help with our Covid-19 responsibilities and to allow for players to better plan their weekends. Like the Sunday Social, you are required to register online through the website a few days in advance: Wednesdays by 6pm so the draw can be posted Thursday morning and unused courts will be released for member use.

The Board has heard from a number of members and is making an effort to make the Wee Weekly more inclusive for the entire membership. To this end, the Board will consider different scenarios from week to week starting in July. Some of these may include new members only, a goal to have a 50-50 split between men and women, mixed doubles, etc. We encourage the membership to reach out to Board Members with other ideas to make the Wee Weekly more inclusive.

After our pilot programs (the Wee-Weekly and Sunday Social), we will provide a more comprehensive structure for the remainder of the year.

Both events will have a capped number of players so register early.
