Building on History
Proceeds support St. George's Tennis Club's three-year Building on History project, improving sustainability, accessibility and inclusion.

Lighting & Water Supply
New LED court lights and an upgraded water supply.

Courts & Fencing
A new court watering system, resurfacing and new court fencing.
Phase 3 · Spring 2028
Clubhouse & Grounds
A full clubhouse renovation, including accessible washrooms, ramps and doors, along with grounds development focused on accessibility improvements.
The $1.2 million project is funded by grants, club contributions and community support. Every ticket and sponsorship helps make it possible.
In Memory of Ann Matthews
Ann coaching at St. George's
A deeply cherished member of St. George's Tennis Club, Ann Matthews was part of a family legacy at the club that spanned more than 100 years. She was the fourth member of her family to serve as club president, following her grandfather in 1919, her father in 1933 and her brother in 1971. Ann served as president in 2006.
Ann learned to play tennis at St. George's and became one of the club's first instructors, inspiring generations of players. Her own remarkable playing career included a Nova Scotia Junior title at 14, the 18-and-under provincial championship and the 1969 Nova Scotia Open Ladies' Singles title, where she defeated the legendary Vida Large. That same year, she represented Nova Scotia at the inaugural Canada Summer Games. She was also a two-time New Brunswick Singles and Mixed Doubles champion and continued competing well into her later years, winning the 2019 NS Open Women's 65-and-over doubles title.
Beyond the court, Ann was a teacher, coach, musician, volunteer and civic leader. She brought energy, generosity and a deep love of community to everything she did.
Ann continued playing tennis at St. George's until shortly before her death in November 2025. Her love for the club, the game and the people who made it home will remain an important part of the St. George's story.
Ann gave her all and then some.
